Magnificent Muscle Cars
March 10th, 2009
Model Ts might appeal to some, but other classic lovers prefer their cars a little newer, a little meaner and a whole lot more powerful. If you’re in love with the roar of a fast engine and want to own a classic, magnificent muscle cars might be right up your alley.
The exact definition of what makes one vehicle a muscle car and another a completely different kind of ride all together is often a matter of debate. Even the Muscle Car Club admits the topic is often hotly debated. Still, there are a few common features that tend to make an older car stand out as a performance machine. The traits found in a muscle car include:
- Production age – Muscle cars generally come from the late 1960s to early 1970s.
- Engine size – The key to a muscle car is its powerful V8 engine that was simply meant for speed and performance.
- Styling – Muscle cars typically are 2-door, rear wheel drive vehicles. While they are considered large by today’s standards, they would were mid-size in their day.
While the exact definition of a muscle car remains in debate, there are a few classics that are not under dispute. Some examples of muscle cars that make collectors swoon include the Pontiac GTO, the Chevy Impala SS, the Chevy Nova and the Ford Mustang.
A car doesn’t have to be stately to be a classic. If there’s a need for speed, muscle cars fit the classic bill while offering a tremendous amount of power in the process.
