How To Make Your Classic Car Dream Come True

March 7th, 2009

You’ve been dreaming of owning a classic car ever since you can remember. You’re ready to take the plunge, but you just don’t know where to turn to get a great ride without getting taken to the cleaners. Don’t give up on making that fantasy reality. There are places to turn to find restoration buys and even fully restored, ready-for-the-road rides.

No matter where you live or what kind of car you’re after, there are some places to look to find good deals. There are even things you can do to ensure you’re making a sound purchase.

To find classic cars in any condition, one of the best places to turn for decent purchases is an actual antique car club. Look for clubs in your area or even nationally and scour their classified ads. It’s even a good idea to consider joining a club before you buy so you can learn from other members where the deals are.

Now, how do you make sure your purchase is sound? There are a few things you’ll want to do before closing a deal on a purchase. They include:

  • Making sure you physically have a chance to inspect the vehicle before buying – It is always wise to check under the hood and kick the tires a time or two before trying to buy a classic.
  • Hiring an inspector – There are companies out there that will inspect classic cars for such things as originality, functionality and frame damage prior to a purchase. If you’re just not sure you’re looking at an original, it’s a very good idea to call on a pro.

Buying a classic is not the same as running to a dealer and picking up this year’s model. To make sure you get a good buy, it does pay to be a little wary going into a deal. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.
