Why Joining a Classic Car Club Can Be Beneficial

January 29th, 2009

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve already picked up a classic car to restore or you have your eyes set on buying one, there are likely some questions that are keeping up late at night. Where should you go to find parts? How much “modification” can you pull off without devaluing your car? Where can you go and show it off when it’s all done? These are all questions that will likely be much easier to answer if you break down and join a classic car club.

Even if you’ve never joined a club in your life, this type of membership organization can be invaluable during the restoration process. While car clubs do differ in what they offer and what cars they will admit, most offer a number of similar benefits. Join a suitable club and you should have access to:

  • Other members – If you want to know how to find a hood for an old Mustang, classic car club members will be able to tell you. The best resource for car enthusiasts happens to be other car enthusiasts. Join a local or national club and you will have access to other people who share your passion.
  • Literature – Many classic car clubs print their own magazines, newsletters and other forms of literature. Most even have their own Web sites, complete with user forums.
  • Sanctioned shows – Half the fun of restoring or just buying a classic car is found when other people take pause to stare under the hood. Club members have access to plenty of shows so they can show off their pride and joy.

Car clubs are a little different than other organizations out there. If you’re thinking of buying or restoring, they just might provide you with the backup you need to take your hobby to the next level.

You can enjoy classic cars whether you own one, rent one or admire those at shows and events.
