September 16th, 2009
You have spent months or even years preparing your classic car to go on the show circuit and now the time has come. Chances are you have more butterflies in your stomach than you could possibly count!
So, how can you get ready and get over those jitters? There are a few things you can do to ease your nerves and help you better enjoy that first show. They include:
- Start out small – If you have truly never shown a car before, try starting out with a small, localized show. This will help you break the ice and better learn what to expect.
- Understand the rules – Make sure to read up on the rules for a show, even a small event. This will ease your mind that your car does fit the classifications you would like to show it in.
- Prepare your car – Take the time to go over your car with a fine-tooth comb to make sure it is show ready. Bring along a quick-clean kit to the show, too. This will help you buff out any road debris that managed to get stuck on your ride from your garage to the show site.
- Relax – Showing a classic car is a labor of love. You do not have stress out about it. Events are not really all about winning best in show; they are about having fun. You will get to spend time with other classic car enthusiasts and even learn more about your passion. It really does not get better than that.
Going to your first show can induce quite a case of the nerves. Prepare yourself well and then try to relax and enjoy the ride. Before long you will be an old pro.
