Watch Out For Rusting
July 30th, 2009
Modern cars just do not have the rusting problems that classics face. This is thanks mostly to advancements in building materials for vehicles and also treatments used in paint and other surface products.
Since you are a classic lover, however, rust is likely to be a concern. Remember, rust is the enemy of any self-respecting car owner that wants to keep a ride looking great. Fortunately, there are things you can do to keep rust at bay and win the war to maintain the appearance of your antique car.
These measures should be added to a regular maintenance routine to prevent rusting:
- Damage inspections – The smallest scratches, scrapes and dents in metal can quickly become plagued by rust. To prevent this, inspect for damage and fix it immediately. In many cases, touchup paint or buffing will remove the weak spot. For extensive dings and dents, body work might be in order.
- Waxing – Keeping a classic well washed and waxed can keep rusting problems away. Make sure to maintain a strict routine for this and the move will help prevent little rust spots from becoming big ones.
Nothing wrecks the appearance of a classic faster than unwanted rusting. With a careful approach, even older cars with original metal and paint can remain rust-free or close to it.
