Collecting Cars
July 17th, 2009
Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to collect classic cars. What actually constitutes a classic car collection is up for debate, however. Does one car count? What about two? Three? Or does it need to be a bigger number to really merit the word “collection”? The only way this question can be answered fully is to leave it up to the individual and the people with whom they interact. Having an interest in classic cars leads inexorably to the desire to own one. Owning a classic car leads to the desire to own at least one more. Before you know it – if you have the money, that is – you will be a classic car collector.
Having a classic car collection is something that is undeniably thrilling for the classic car aficionado. Even people who don’t drive much have been known to maintain a collection in much the same way as people like to collect art. You may be no Vincent van Gogh, but having a great painting hanging in your house can still be nice. So even those of us who don’t drive all that much have their reasons to collect wonderful examples of automotive design and construction. Of course, it does make it more fun if you can take them for a spin every once in a while, and that is something no-one could deny.
You may, on the other hand, consider them to be something of an asset. But if you are collecting cars for their value, be aware that they will take a lot of maintenance if they are to hold their potential sale or auction price.
