Advertising to Find Parts You Need
June 30th, 2009
Whether it is a muscle car or a stately old coupe, rebuilding a classic is part of the fun of ownership. Unfortunately, finding original parts to do so can be a full-time job in and of itself. There are some things you can do to ease the process along if authenticity is a big consideration.
One of the best ways to find parts you need is to actually put a call out for them. You can do this in addition to actively seeking out locations that are selling parts. Some of the places you might want to advertise for classic parts include:
In regional newspapers – Put a want ad in a newspaper with a decent market reach in your area. It is possible someone in your neck of the woods has the same make and model that they are parting out or even would be willing to sell to help you rebuild yours.
Through local car clubs – Antique car enthusiasts stick together. If you advertise for the parts you need in club newsletters, it is possible a member will know where you can find what you are after or one may even have the parts handy. If not, members might be willing to keep their eyes and ears open for you.
On classic car web sites – If you want to take your search national or international, advertise on web sites to gain a wide reach.
Rebuilding a classic with authenticity in mind is not an overnight process. When parts get in the way of reaching the goal, you can get proactive with the search. Sometimes this can pay off for you faster than other methods of tracking down original parts.
